Metal fabrication calculators, made practical

Estimate material weight and cost, convert units, and plan common fabrication work with quick, easy-to-use tools.

Sheet and plate Pipe and tube Bars and sections Unit converters

Sheet and plate weight

Estimate weight per sheet, batch weight, and optional material cost.

Approximate formula: length × width × thickness × density. Dimensions are in mm; density is in g/cm³.

Rectangular hollow section weight

Estimate RHS weight per metre and total weight.

Uses a square-corner hollow-section approximation. Rounded corners and manufacturing tolerances affect actual weight.

Round bar weight

Estimate weight per metre and total weight for solid round bar.

Pipe weight

Estimate pipe weight using outside diameter and wall thickness.

Flat bar weight

Estimate weight per metre and total weight for a solid rectangular bar.

Round tube weight

Estimate the weight of a hollow round tube.

Triangular plate weight

Estimate a right-triangle plate from its two perpendicular sides.

This calculator assumes a right triangle. It does not calculate arbitrary triangular shapes.

Sheet-metal bend allowance

Estimate bend allowance and outside setback for one bend.

Estimate only. The correct K-factor depends on material, tooling, and forming method.

Cut-list total

Add lengths of round or flat-bar pieces to estimate stock length and weight.

Round bar: Dimension 1 is diameter. Flat bar: Dimension 1 is width and Dimension 2 is thickness.

Material cost estimator

Estimate cost from known weight, price per kg, and optional waste.

Taxes, freight, cutting charges, and other fees are not included.

Length converter

Convert between common metric and imperial units.

Material density reference

Typical approximate densities used in the calculators.

Mild steel

7.85 g/cm³ · 7,850 kg/m³

Stainless steel 304

7.93 g/cm³ · 7,930 kg/m³

Stainless steel 316

7.98 g/cm³ · 7,980 kg/m³

Aluminium

2.70 g/cm³ · 2,700 kg/m³

Copper

8.96 g/cm³ · 8,960 kg/m³

Brass

About 8.50 g/cm³ · varies by alloy

These tools provide estimates, not certified weights. Confirm alloy grade, actual dimensions, and pricing with the supplier before purchasing or designing a load-bearing part.
About Siprodi

Useful tools for the metalworking bench

Siprodi brings common fabrication calculations together in one place. Use these tools for quick planning, material estimates, and everyday workshop checks.

Made for practical work

Estimate weights for sheet, plate, pipe, tube, and common bar profiles without working through each formula by hand.

Quick to use

Enter your dimensions, choose a material where available, and see your estimate alongside the calculator.

More than weight

Convert lengths, estimate material costs, total cut lists, and check a basic sheet-metal bend allowance.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

Helpful notes for using the calculators and understanding the results.

Are the results exact?

No. Results are estimates based on the dimensions and material density entered. Actual weights can vary with alloy, tolerances, corner radii, and manufacturing methods.

What units should I enter?

Follow the units shown beside each field. For example, sheet dimensions use millimetres, while many profile lengths use metres.

Does the cost estimate include fees?

The estimate uses the weight and price per kilogram you provide. Taxes, delivery, cutting, and other charges are not included.

Can I use these results for structural design?

Use the calculators for general estimating, not as a substitute for engineering calculations, certified data, or supplier specifications.

Why might my supplier’s weight differ?

Standard sizes, actual material grades, production tolerances, and profile geometry can all affect the final weight.

How do I start over?

Use the Reset button on a calculator to restore its default values and clear the displayed result.
